Chucky Lives: New Child’s Play Film Coming

Posted by philhobden on June 25, 2012

Yes that beastly devil Doll Chucky lives to fight another day in the upcoming CURSE OF CHUCKY, after what many assumed was cinematic swansong (and series low point) SEED OF CHUCKY (2004).

Although CURSE OF CHUCKY is set to be a direct to DVD sequel, series creator Don Mancini will be writing once again (he has written every Chucky film since the film franchise’s inception back in 1998) and, as he did with SEED, stepping back into the director’s chair.  Brad Dourif will return as the voice of the titular doll.

Sounding much more like a standalone movie than a continuation of the Bride/Seed continuity, MovieHole describes the story as:

Chucky arrives to wreck havoc within a family that’s regrouped for a funeral. In the wake of her mother’s passing, a young woman – in a wheelchair since birth – is forced to put up with her sister, brother-in-law, niece and their nanny as they say their goodbyes to mother. When people start turning up dead, the fearless Nica discovers the culprit might be a “strange doll” she was sent a couple of days earlier.

Talk is that CURSE will see a return to the more serious tone of the earlier films which isn’t a bad thing considering how the series was starting to fall into parody ground.

CURSE OF CHUCKY starts filming in Canada in September for a 2013 release.
