The Joker Returns to DC Comics in October

DC comics has announced the return of Batman’s arch nemesis this October with Batman #13, in a story by superstar New 52 Batman team – Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, and Jonathan Glapion. The Joker’s return will come in a story ominously titled ‘Death of the Family‘ and will be released on 10th October.
“The Joker will come out of the dark in a horrifying, unnerving, and huge way,” according to DC Comics’ Source blog, “And the grave consequences of his reemergence will be felt by not only the Bat-family, but by all of Gotham City.”
Scott Snyder, quoted by The Source, elaborated further on the story to come: “Basically, this is my big exploration of the Joker, my ‘Arkham Asylum‘ or ‘The Killing Joke‘, only bigger in scope. Bottom line: it’s the biggest, baddest, most shocking Joker story I could tell.” He added, “This is Joker completely unleashed. He has been away for a full year planning this revenge, watching, plotting, setting things up. And now he’s back.
The title ‘Death of the Family‘ is a reference to the classic 1988-89 ‘Death in the Family‘ storyline that brought tragedy to the Bat-family when second Robin, Jason Todd, was brutally beaten and blown up by the Joker. The Joker also shot and crippled Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, in the Alan Moore penned ‘The Killing Joke‘ storyline, first published in 1988 (although this was overturned with the New 52 reboot).
The Joker was last seen in the first issue of DC’s New 52 Detective Comics relaunch written and drawn by Tony Daniel.
