The Hobbit Completes Filming

Posted by deanjsimons on July 7, 2012

It’s a wrap. The Hobbit, the long awaited and highly anticipated duology prequel to The Lord of the Rings film trilogy has finally completed principal filming, it was announced via director Peter Jackson’s official Facebook page earlier today.

In a Facebook post, Peter Jackson said:

“We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con! Cheers, Peter J”

Both Hobbit movies were filmed in New Zealand, back-to-back, in a similar manner to that of the acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again are due in cinemas in December 2012 and December 2013, respectively. The movies star Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, and Richard Armitage.
