Posted by philhobden on July 12, 2012

After much speculation, Bond producers  Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli today confirmed that BEN WHISHAW will be playing the role of Q in the new 007 film SKYFALL™.

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli commented, “It’s a real thrill to confirm the return of Q in SKYFALL played by the enormously talented, Ben Whishaw.” commented Wilson and Broccoli “ We are delighted to have this beloved character back in the series.”

Whishaw, a BAFTA Rising Star nominee in 2007,  has been seen previous in films such as Bright Star, The Tempest, Brideshead Revisited, I’m Not There, Stoned, Layer Cake, Enduring Love, The Trench, Mauvaise Passé, and the lead roles in My Brother Tom and Perfume opposite Alan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman as well as a host of TV & stage appearances.

Whishaw becomes the fourth actor to play Q.   The role began with Peter Burton as Major Boothroyd  in Dr. No, followed by the legend that is Desmond Llewelyn (in 17 Bond films between 1963-1999), and then finally John Cleese in The World is Not Enough & Die Another Day.
In SKYFALL™, released in cinemas in october 2012, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her.  As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.  The film is from Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment.  Directed by Sam Mendes.  Produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.  Written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and John Logan.
Whishaw features alongside returning stars Daniel Craig (as James Bond) and Judi Dench (as M) as well as Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Bérénice Marlohe and Naomie Harris.  SKYFALL™ is directed by American Beauty director Sam Menzes.
SKYFALL opens at cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 26th October, 2012
