The Equalizer Returns… as Denzil Washington

“Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer. 212 555 4200.” Yes the man in the trench coast is back and this time he’s… Denzil Washington.
That’s right Oscar winner Denzel Washington is once again cementing his reputation for taking on bad ass action roles as he closes in on a deal to play The Equalizer, a loose adaptation of the cult 1980s CBS series about a onetime military covert ops agent who helps civilians in need.
Washington, whose action credits have ranged from the brilliant (Man Of Fire) to the not so brilliant (Out Of Time) will be taking over the role of Robert McCall as made famous by British legend Edward Woodward in this Sony backed franchise potential.
Directors being lined up for this project include ’Drive’s Nicolas Winding Refn, ‘The Raid’s Gareth Evans, ‘Taken’s Pierre Morel and ‘Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor. All of which, with the right script (currently being penned by Richard Wenk, writer of The Mechanic & 16 Blocks) could make for a damn fine movie. Shooting beings in Boston on April 8.
