X-Men: First Class 2 confirmed as Days of Future Past

Posted by montoc1701 on August 2, 2012

The sequel gets an official name at last. It will be called X-Men: Days Of Future Past. For X-Men fans this is some welcome news as Days of Future Past was a short story from the early 80′s. I loved this plot and wonder how they will include it in this franchise as Wolverine was a key player in that story and he is busy with his own movie.

The title takes its name from a two-part story of the same name, which originally ran in Uncanny X-Men issues 141 and 142. The story established an alternate timeline, in which the X-Men fought Mystique and her Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the present, while the future universe is dominated by Sentinels.

In an interview with IGN, in which he confirmed the film’s title, Singer also revealed his intention to “broaden out” the X-Men universe, just as Marvel have done with The Avengers, and perhaps provide links to the earlier X-Men trilogy.

In case you want to know the plot of the comic this is taken from Wikipedia.

The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men. She succeeds in her mission and returns to the future, but despite her success, the future timeline still exists as an alternative timeline rather than as the actual future. (The Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe: Alternate Universes 2005 gave the numerical designation of “Days of Future Past” Earth as Earth-811).

So what do you think of this news. Let us know.

  1. Just as X-Men First Class had nothing to do with the original Lee & Kirby created X-Men, I doubt this sequel will be much different. Expect this movie to pay little more than lip service to Claremont and Byrne’s original masterpiece.
