Sinbad’s Coming to the US in 2013

Ever since it was announced that BBC & Sky were bringing the story of Sinbad to British TV, I’ve wanted to watch it. Not a surprise as this has happened to me before with Doctor Who, Merlin, Being Human, Sherlock…the list goes on!
However, it can sometimes be a very long wait before those us in the US get to see our favorite shows and that’s no different when it comes to this one which will air on Syfy.
It’s another take on the classic Middle Eastern story of a heroic sailor who has fantastic adventures going to magical places, meeting monsters, and encountering supernatural phenomena. Sounds a bit Merlin-y to me but set somewhere in the desert instead of medieval castles!
The premise this time around occurs when Sinbad accidentally kills the son of the powerful Lord Akbari in a fist fight. In retribution, Sinbad’s brother is killed in front of his eyes and he manages to escape. But while he’s on his sailing adventures, he is unaware that Lord Akbari doesn’t think the blood debt is enough and is still hunting him.
The 12-part series stars newcomer Elliot Knight as Sinbad and many will recognize Lost‘s Naveen Andrews as his arch-nemesis, Lord Akbari. Rounding out the rest of the cast are Elliot Cowan (Gunnar), Marama Corlett (Rina), Estella Daniels (Nala), Junix Inocian (Cook) and Dimitri Leonidas (Doctor Anwar). Upcoming guest stars include Sophie Okonedo, Timothy Spall and Dougray Scott. So how long will we have to wait to see Sinbad’s swashbuckling adventures?
Until April 2013! Can’t wait but I’m going to have to. For those who’ve already seen the series, what do you think? And if you haven’t, are you excited to check it out?
