Cardiff Expo Reveals Plans for a ‘New and Improved’ Cosplay Parade

The convention season for 2012 is gearing up to be a busy year for visitors, exhibitors and organisers. One of the first conventions of the season will be the  Cardiff International Comic and Animation Expo which is set to take place between the 25th -26th Feb.

Last years show was a huge success but even with a fantastic 1st event behind them the show runners have not sat on their laurels and have been taking onboard the feedback from last years event. One of the areas they have been working hard on improving has been the Cosplay parade, which the organisers are promising to be ‘new and improved’ for the 2012 show.

COSPLAY PARADE & COMPETITION INFORMATION FOR CICAE 2012

On the afternoon of Saturday 25th February, there will be a Cosplay Parade for valid ticket-holders around the Main Hall followed by each Cosplayer being assessed by judges, with both cash and goods prizes being awarded in the following categories and sub-categories:

Under 12’s:
BEST IN SHOW

12-15 ‘Junior’:
BEST STORE-BOUGHT (Male), BEST STORE-BOUGHT (Female), BEST HANDMADE (Male), BEST HANDMADE (Female)

16+ ‘Adult’:
BEST STORE-BOUGHT (Male), BEST STORE-BOUGHT (Female), BEST HANDMADE (Male), BEST HANDMADE (Female)

Cosplay is not limited to costumes from anime and games – whether the source is films, television, comics, video games or cartoons, any costume is welcome.

HOW TO ENTER
You can register by using the online form here http://www.fantasyevents.org/cicae/cosplay.html – please note, all ages are allowed to enter, but if a Cosplayer is under 12, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the day, to sign a consent form, and if they are under 16 they are not allowed by law to receive a cash prize, therefore an alternate prize will be provided.

Online registrations will close on 7th February. The Expo Team will send an email to each Cosplay registrant to confirm receipt of the online registration.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY?
Upon arrival at the Expo, all Expo attendees will be given wristbands as they arrive and show their PayPal receipt – this is your ticket, please do not lose it!!
Cosplayers who have registered for the Parade and Competition will be asked to return in the early afternoon to be fully registered for their participation in the Parade and Competition – we will ensure all details are correct, and will be able to confirm times for the Parade and judging.

We welcome people entering the Parade solo, in pairs or in groups. Groups must exceed no more than 5 for Health & Safety reasons.

If aiming for a prize, note that you will be judged as a group, not just on the best costumes.

Costumes must be suitable for a family audience.

We regret that we cannot accept individual music tracks.

The judges’ decision is FINAL. Please respect the judges and the other participants by accepting their decisions.
