Freeway Fighter Comic Roars Into Action!

Like most geeks aged in their 40s, I have extremely fond memories of the Steve Jackson & Ian Livingstone Fighting Fantasy gamebooks (see this excellent article here for more about them !). In particular, my favourites were those books which strayed from the standard fantasy stories and allowed me to play in other genres;  I re-read books like Appointment with FEAR (superheroes) and House of Hell (horror) many times. The book I read and re-read and re-re-read most often was the Mad Max-inspired Freeway Fighter. In this book YOU must save the town of New Hope by crossing the desert and bring back supplies from oil refinery/walled city of San Anglo. The book had rules for both human and vehicle combat, which my brother and I adapted to a war game using our Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars, resulting in many battles fought across the desert wasteland of our parent’s lounge room floor !

So, to say I was excited about this entry in the Previews catalogue from Titan Comics is an incredibly large understatement ! It is fantastic that this setting is being brought back, and with creators whose work I enjoy and a medium I love. I predict that in the future my brother and I will read this comic, them borrow my sons’ Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars so we can once again battle across a desert wasteland (this time in my own lounge room !)
