Cthulhu Wars Kickstarter Devours Its Target

Cthulhu-WarsWe’ve covered a lot of Video Game Kickstarters on the site, but there is also a thriving board-game scene there too.

One of the big success stories finished today, smashing its $40,000 target with a staggering $ 1.4 million pledged. What sort of game could do that, you ask? Well, it’s Sandy Peterson’s Cthulhu Wars, a co-operative board game where plucky (doomed!) investigators fight against the rising forces of ancient horror. The page is up here and is full of videos, miniature images and even downloadable copies of the rules.

The interesting thing about these board game Kickstarters is that they are successful even given the large costs involved – this is $110 to get the base game, plus a somewhat ruinous $45 shipping. There is a lot of stuff in that box though, so well worth it if you have a shot at playing it a few times. And even if you missed it, I expect this will come through to retail channels once all the Kickstarter orders are fulfilled.
