NYCC 2013: Reign Cast and Creator Interviews

There are plenty of new shows to choose from this fall, but one of the ones I am looking forward to most is CW’s Reign, the story of a young Mary, Queen of Scots.

Let’s face it – The CW puts on a good show. The writing is generally very good (think Arrow, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries), and the actors are always unfairly attractive. The latter bit is certainly true of Reign, and I am sure the story will be captivating as well.

First, we spoke with Laurie McCarthy, who is the Executive Producer. Laurie filled us in on how they decided what history to stick to and where to…improvise. Also, she filled us in on the important process of selecting the actors to play these historical characters.

Next up were Toby Regbo and Torrance Coombs, who play a young Francis and his half-brother, Bash. Once you get past the sheer gloriousness of Toby’s shirt, the pair talked about filming (and bonding) in Ireland, and Toby goes on an interesting tangent about Robocop and Mrs. Doubtfire. And Twins.

Easily one of the most entertaining interviews I’ve ever been a part of – what a hilarious duo these two are! I can’t wait to see how their chemistry plays out in the show.

And finally, last but certainly not least, we got to speak with Adelaide Kane, who plays Mary. I have to say, I was so incredibly impressed with her – her poise, elegance – it’s not at all a stretch to imagine her playing royalty. She’s also a geek (like us!) and was very eager to ditch us and hit the exhibition floor. But before that, she gave us the scoop on what it was like playing a Queen, and what she would do if she was Queen for a day

I don’t know about you, but she’s got my vote!

Very excited for Reign, which is hitting airwaves in just a few short days. I’ll definitely be tuning in, and expecting great things from this show!
