FOX’s Sleepy Hollow was a, for lack of a better world, sleeper hit to appear on our screens. When you think of the classic Washington Irving story, you wouldn’t necessarily think a historical fantasy series about it would work. Remember the movie with Johnny Depp? In any case, everyone (and I mean everyone) was pleasantly blown away by the acting and writing – especially the comedic one-liners that Ichabod utters as a man out of his own time and thrown into modern day America. Initially given only a 13 episode order, I was craving more and wondering – what’s next for our motley crew in Sleepy Hollow?
We had the chance to speak with two of the creators, Len Wiseman and Alex Kurtzman, along with cast members Tom Mison (Ichabod Crane), Nicole Beharie (Abbie Mills), Katia Winter (Katrina Crane) and Orlando Jones (Captain Irving) at New York Comic Con 2013 to get those answers you’re itching for. Fair warning for spoilers ahead!
With Captain Irving confessing to murders he didn’t commit but can’t explain, Abbie stuck in Purgatory, Ichabod buried alive, Katrina kidnapped and the revelation that Sineater Henry Parrish is actually the Cranes’ long-thought-dead son and one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse – the residents of this small New York town are in for a ride next season. I’ve been quite a fan of the friendship between Abbie and Ichabod so was happy to find that there will be further development of it along with broader flashbacks, more backstory and insights into some of the more peripheral characters – namely Irving, Katrina, the Headless Horseman and more. Moloch will also be back to give viewers nightmares but we’ll learn more as Ichabod & co do.
