SDCC 2013: Grimm Interviews

SDCC 2013: Grimm Interviews

12 Aug, 2013

If one were to judge by San Diego Comic-Con press rooms alone, it would be assumed that Grimm is one of the most talked about shows on television. In reality, the cult favorite seems to be constantly on the fence between renewal and cancellation (the industry calls it “on the bubble”). The show, famous for its season finale cliffhangers, is about to go into its third season.  Despite the chaos of the press room, we were able to sit down with most of the cast as well as executive producers to talk about what we can expect in this upcoming season. If you’re not caught up then let this be your Spoiler Warning! It’s well known by Grimm fans that the pace of the end of last season was intense, and then we were left with the dreaded “To Be Continued…” title card. So what is to come of Grimm In A Box? The executive producers wouldn’t tell us much but we know from talking to Silas Weir Mitchell (“Monroe”) that “the show picks up right where it left off.” Star David Giuntoli (“Nick/Grimm”) confirms that he starts season three the way he ended in season two: “in a box.” So Nick is a zombie and he’s in a coffin on his way to Europe. The producers to share that we will see Europe, but would not elaborate. We asked David about it and he gave us more of a riddle: “I’ll put it this way: They’ve filmed for five days so far and I’ve not been to Portland [where the show is filmed] yet…” but quickly tells us not to worry “It will still be called Grimm. I will be in the show. I am not dead.” When we asked Silas if he could sum up what we should expect to see in season three he offered “Zombie attacks and Grimm’s life is at stake… and tons of crazy stunts. It’s very cinematic; very large in scope.” We discuss how the pace picked up toward the end of season two progressing towards Nick ending up zombified in a coffin and we asked if, since the show picks up where it left off, that...

SDCC 2013: Once Upon a Time Interviews

SDCC 2013: Once Upon a Time Interviews

8 Aug, 2013

In all of the interviews I have conducted, none ever seemed as strange to me as when I got to sit down with the cast and creators of Once Upon a Time to discuss what happened in the shows second season, and what we can expect from the third. We were able to talk to creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, and cast: Ginnifer Goodwin, Emilie De Ravin, Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle, Josh Dallas, Colin O’Donoghue, and Michael Raymond-James. The complete interviews can be found below, but they do contain spoilers if you are not caught up on season 2. Cannot say I didn’t warn you! The interviews were strange to me because I never thought I would find myself at a table talking to grown men about their expectations of Neverland, or what kind of drama we could expect to see between Captain Hook and the Evil Queen. It was strange, but awesome. It would have been better had the cast and creators not be so tight-lipped about what we can expect. But what we do know is the cast is divided between Storybrooke and Hook’s ship on its way to Neverland to rescue young Henry who was taken there by an “evil” Peter Pan. What we don’t know how long it will take them, or if the gang on the ship, which consists of: Snow, Emma, Charming, Regina/Evil Queen, Hook, and Rumple can set aside their differences to save Henry. We already know that Hook and Rumple have had to let things go, if you will, but who’s to say how long that could last? Co-Creator Edward Kitsis said it best when he called the group a literal “Boatload of leaders who all want to be in charge”… The drama is basically guaranteed.  Add that with the big question, the one nobody would answer: Will magic work the same in Neverland? You can watch the videos of all of the interviews below with profuse thanks to our gracious friends (and table buddies) at Whedonopolis for allowing us to publish their video footage. Ours was a wash due to the cast being backlit with the San Diego sun flooding in the room. When you have a...

SDCC 2013: Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Interviews

SDCC 2013: Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Interviews

7 Aug, 2013

If you’re a fan of the various Alice in Wonderland stories, or if you’re a fan of the original Once Upon a Time series, then chances are you will enjoy the spin off show, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. Though most of the actors are new to American television, those of you in the UK most likely recognize this cast of young up-and-comers. I got to sit down with the cast, as well as the creators of the show to discuss this new Wonderland. The cast includes Sophie Lowe (Alice), Peter Gadiot (Cyrus), Michael Socha (Knave of Hearts), and Emma Rigby (The Red Queen / Queen of Hearts). The creators of the show assure us that season one comes in a nice package that will be wrapped up by the seasons end, and if they are picked up for a second season then they will start fresh with a whole new story with the same great cast. The lucky ones at the panel got to see 19 minutes of the pilot episode in which Alice finds herself institutionalized by her father for believing in Wonderland. Nobody believes she went to this magical place where she met and fell in love with Cyrus. She finds she cannot convince them of Wonderland, so instead she must convince them that she no longer believes in Wonderland. The show, much like it’s “mother” show, will go back and forth between the “real, modern” world in which Alice is from, and Wonderland. Creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis assures us that any questions that arise in season one will be answered by the end of the season. All of the actors were really excited to be a part of this series, especially Michael Socha and Emma Rigby. They both gushed about how chuffed they are to work on an American TV show. Although it is an American show, it is one that stars British actors and filmed in Vancouver, Canada, so I would say it’s a team effort. Michael is probably best known for his recent for role as Tom in the UK’s Being Human. He had turned down the offer of a role to try his luck at...

SDCC 2013: Supernatural Interviews & Nerd HQ Panel

SDCC 2013: Supernatural Interviews & Nerd HQ Panel

6 Aug, 2013

The Winchesters were back at Comic-Con yet again to give us a sneak peak into what we can expect after the fantastic season 8 finale. Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins and Mark Sheppard all sat down with us to spill (some) of the beans. Beware Season 8 spoilers are ahead! Last season should just be called “The sky is falling! (Kinda)” as that’s pretty much what happened. Sam’s suffering even more from the effects of the trials as Dean stopped him from completing them. The angels fell from Heaven after Metatron’s sneaky betrayal – Naomi and her mafioso angels are goners. And before Cas could put up a fight, Metatron tied him down and cut out his “essence and grace” in order to complete the spell. That also leaves Crowley VERY close to being cured of his demon-ness. I pretty much uttered “Holy guacamole!” the entire time. The cast talked a bit about what’s in store for each of their characters in Season 9 and you can also check out Jared & Jensen’s hilarious Nerd HQ panel in images & video below: Photo Credit: Sharlene...

SDCC 2013: Syfy’s Being Human

SDCC 2013: Syfy’s Being Human

5 Aug, 2013

For the longest time, I was on the fence with Syfy’s Being Human remake. There were moments that were exact replicas of the UK original, which drove me mad because I liked the UK version better. Then there were moments of pure originality that I loved from the US version – that truly differentiated it from it’s across-the-pond brethren. This last season was absolutely fantastic and really set the series on it’s own path in my opinion. The cast hit up San Diego Comic Con to let some nuggets slip about what we can expect in Season 4, which will be premiering in 2014. A season 3 sizzle reel was shown and we left our heroes in a bit of a pickle: Aidan set his mangled vampire progeny loose in the wild and the big shocker was the apparent return of his long-dead wife. Josh and Nora got hitched but unsurprisingly, Liam’s thirst for vengeance has Josh stuck being a werewolf again. But Sally’s situation was the worst – having died once again, she was back to her ghostly self, seemingly free of her shady deal with Donna the witch. But there’s always a price as she got literally dragged to hell through her death spot by that same witch. Of Season 4, Sam Witwer said: “We’re going to see some faces, that frankly, the audience won’t be able to predict. Certain actors that I’ve missed working with very much.” Mark Pellegrino’s headed back but “he’s always back” according to Sam! “The writers are interested in sending me on dates!” Looks like a continued look into Aidan’s relationships past and present will be happening but also a look into his relationship with the vampires: “We will tackle that issue of which side is he on?” For Sally as a human the second time around, we had the chance to meet another member of her family, her brother. But is he going to return? “Yeah, um, I don’t know if I can say, but I will! I think we do see my brother again in season 4.” But Sally as a ghost the second time around isn’t quite the same girl we once knew. “Really the place that...

SDCC 2013: Doctor Who Interviews & Nerd HQ Panel

SDCC 2013: Doctor Who Interviews & Nerd HQ Panel

4 Aug, 2013

With the 12th Doctor to be announced during BBC’s Doctor Who Live special, it’s almost the end of the 11th Doctor!  For many at SDCC, it was a bittersweet time as it will be the last time Matt Smith attends as the current Doctor. But he’s not gone just yet as Matt kept reiterating throughout the week! It was also Jenna-Louise Coleman’s first time at the big show and you could tell she was a bit overwhelmed but touched by all the love shown to them by the fans – especially the Clara cosplayers! From the 50th Anniversary to the what kind of legacy he’d like to leave behind, Steven Moffat spoke to us about what’s next for the Doctor (oh how he’s going to make us weep) while Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman talked about everything from Karen Gillan’s new do to what life will be like with a new doctor. Take a peek at our interviews below: It’s Filch! OK, so it’s really David Bradley and Mark Gatiss but I couldn’t help my internal Harry Potter squee when the pair sat down with us to chat about An Adventure in Space and Time special that’s been commissioned to celebrate the 50th Anniversary. Bradley plays the First Doctor, William Hartnell and the docudrama tells the tale of how Doctor Who came to be: I then found myself at Nerd HQ once again for the Doctor Who panel. Matt Smith was a ham and had a ball on stage taking the mickey out of Steven (and Moffat doing it right back). Jenna seemed a bit quieter but I took that as her soaking in the love from the room. Honestly, it’s such a great venue for a more intimate panel experience that you just can’t get at SDCC plus 100% of the proceeds go directly to Operation Smile so what’s not to love about that? SDCC 2013: Haven Interviews & Nerd HQ Panel

SDCC 2013: Haven Interviews & Nerd HQ Panel

3 Aug, 2013

If you haven’t been tuning into Syfy’s Haven then I have to ask: Is you crazy?! You have just over a month (or two if you’re in the UK) to catch up on three incredible seasons of the show before the highly-anticipated (at least by me) season four premiere starts in the US on September 14, and in the UK sometime in October. Check your local listings for exact times. At this years Comic-Con, I sat and had lunch with the cast of Haven and we talked about the show, Colin Ferguson (who is going to be guest starring in eight episodes this season), Emily Rose‘s new baby, all of the fantastic guest stars coming up this season, Alf, Fred Willard, and “naked looking” puppets. Haven is cast with some of the nicest, funniest people I’ve had the pleasure to sit down with, and two years in a row, the Haven press table has taken the prize for my favorite Comic-Con experience. As a fan of the show it is always refreshing to see that the actors behind the characters I love so much are just as amazing as you think. Some highlights from my time with Lucas Bryant, Emily Rose, and Eric Balfour include: Hearing about Emily‘s new son, and how her co-stars are helping out. How the show worked around Emily‘s pregnancy and all of the new characters coming in to balance out the workload. Lucas Bryant and his humor. As Nathan, we don’t always get to see the wacky side of Lucas Bryant, but when he’s not in character he is a riot. Was Eric Balfour “catfished” by a fake Parker Posey? (No spoilers here, You’ll have to listen) “Naked Looking” Puppets and the barn built out of popsicle sticks. Emily Interviews Lucas Listen to the interview as well as the shenanigans that ensue the longer we all sit together. http://geeksyndicate.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/haven_press-lucas-bryant_emily-rose_eric-balfour.mp3 Before sitting down with Lucas, Emily, and Eric, I sat down with season four guest star Colin Ferguson, as well as series regular Adam Copeland to talk about their roles in the upcoming season. Adam, who plays Dwight on the show, said that Dwight was supposed to be a one...

SDCC 2013: Lost Girl Interviews

SDCC 2013: Lost Girl Interviews

3 Aug, 2013

Lately, many of my favorite shows are coming from my neighbors to the north – Canada. Orphan Black, Continuum, Defiance and Being Human are all produced in Canada and Lost Girl is one of the best science fiction dramas to come along in a long time. The series tells the story of Bo, a succubus who grows up unaware she’s adopted or of her fae nature. Running away from home, she eventually finds out about her power and is confronted to choose between either the Light or Dark fae. She declares herself Switzerland and we follow her on a journey to discover her past with lots of fighting and sexy times thrown in for good measure. I was delighted to get the chance to talk with cast members Kris Holden-Ried (Dyson), Ksenia Solo (Kenzi) and Zoie Palmer (Lauren), along with Lost Girl series Executive Producers Emily Andras and Jay Firestone and Producer Vanessa Piazza. Kris was excited to be back at Comic Con and that means light-fae wolf warrior Dyson’s back too: “Needless to say I survived. I’m here.” In relation to how the show was going to top itself over the last 3 seasons, he stated that: “All of the episodes are really ambitious. It’s getting difficult to film in 7 days like we usually do.” Of what we can look forward to in season 4, Zoie elaborated that: “Things have changed. That we can say – things are not the same.” When asked specifically about her character, the smart and mysterious human doctor, Lauren, we find that: “She’s always walking the line of whether she’s good or not, y’know. So there’s more of that for sure.” Ksenia plays Kenzi, the street-smart, sarcastic human best friend to Bo and she was a delight to chat with. When we last saw Kenzi, she was a bit lost and considering turning fae among other things. Ksenia chatted about a possible new romance for the sarcastic con artist with a heart as well as the return of Vex: But Bo and company would not be around if it weren’t for showrunner Emily Andras and producer Vanessa Piazza. We spoke to the pair about the themes for Season 4 and the...

SDCC 2013: Orphan Black Interviews & Nerd HQ Panel

SDCC 2013: Orphan Black Interviews & Nerd HQ Panel

1 Aug, 2013

Last year, my favorite show on TV met its end but I didn’t have to wait long to find a new TV love. As soon as Orphan Black premiered on BBC America in March of this year, I was an immediate member of the Clone Club! Initially, I wondered why more people weren’t watching this amazing cast with Tatiana Maslany’s incredible turn as Sarah and 6 other clones at its core. But I spoke too soon as social media is wonderful thing at times. Once the buzz caught fire it blazed a trail across the Internet, landing Maslany a much-deserved Critics Choice Award for Best Drama Actress but not an Emmy nod (boo!).  It was an Orphan Black convention for me;  we hit up the cast’s very first con panel ever at Nerd HQ, caught up with the creators of the series, Graeme Manson and John Fawcett in an intimate roundtable a day before chatting with cast members Jordan Gavaris and Dylan Bruce to learn what’s in store for our clones and their cohorts in Season 2. We also discussed what Graeme and John think of the Hollywood machine (including Tatiana’s Emmy snub), the intricacies of filming multiple characters with only one actress, the complex storylines the writers tackle and how certain characters received their names. Listen to the interview below: http://geeksyndicate.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/orphan-black_creatorsrt.mp3 The next day, we filled in for our friends who weren’t clones and couldn’t be in two places at once. We had the opportunity to speak with Jordan Gavaris, who plays Sarah’s fantastically flamboyant foster brother (say that three times fast!), Felix and Dylan Bruce who plays her shady new lover/monitor, Paul. They were both a delight – especially when recalling Jordan’s love of Taylor Swift among other things! Check out our interview below: But that wasn’t the end of the OB goodness! As soon as Nerd HQ announced they were having a panel with the cast – I was on it like white on rice and rewarded with a front row seat to what I think was the best panel of the convention (not counting the Loki madness of Hall H since I wasn’t there for it). There were many, many laughs and a truly genuine...

SDCC 2013: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy & Thor: The Dark World

31 Jul, 2013

Onto part 2 of our Marvel coverage from San Diego Comic Con! I think everyone and their grandmother has seen the amazing video of Loki appearing in Hall H (but in case you haven’t, it’s behind the cut) – it makes me wish I was in that room screaming with my fellow geeks. They were also treated to early footage of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy with the entire cast making a quick appearance at the convention. If the chatter I heard after the fact was any indication, we’re in for another treat from Marvel. I awaited the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy and one Mr. Tom Hiddleston after the panel and you can check out photos as well as my chat with Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser) and Karen Gillan (Nebula) who’s sporting a shocking new look!
