Hearts of Darkness: Horror Reading List 2012

So, thanks to everyone who contacted me their Horror recommendations, and I think I’ve already learned more about the genre than I thought possible. The list has taken some compiling, and is still a couple of items short – specifically I am light on female authors and also I’d like to delve a little bit into all the Darkly  Romantic Vampire movement that started up in the 1990s – which inclines me to read Anne Rice books again, but I didn’t really get on with them last time around…
Anyway, the list is:
  1. Frankenstein – Mary Shelly (1819)
  2. Tales of Mystery and Imagination – Edgar Allen Poe (1840s)
  3. The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde – Robert Louis Stevenson (1886)
  4. Dracula – Bram Stoker (1897)
  5. The Turn of the Screw – Henry James (1898)
  6. Assorted – M R James (1910s)
  7. Assorted – H P Lovecraft (1930s)
  8. Assorted – Clark Ashton Smith (1930s)
  9. The Devil Rides Out – Denis Wheatley (1934)
  10. The Haunting of Hill House – Shirley Jackson (1959)
  11. The Exorcist – William Peter Blatty (1971)
  12. The Shining  – Stephen King (1977)
  13. The Damnation Game – Clive Barker (1985)
  14. Ancient Images – Ramsey Cambpell (1989)
  15. The House of Leaves – Mark Danielewski (2000)
  16. Let the Right One In – John Ajvide Lindqvist (2004)
  17. John Dies at the End – David Wong (2007)
  18. Bestseller Fodder (2012)

Any suggestions for the missing two books gratefully received, and I will be back in a fortnight to start with the first review: Frankenstein, Or, The Modern Prometheus.
