Dafoe joins John Carter of Mars movie

Civil War vet John Carter is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior. IMDB

According to Variety Willem Dafoe has signed up to play a supporting role in Disney’s John Carter of Mars an adaptation of the classic fantasy novelsĀ  by Edgar Rice Burroughs’s. I’ve never read the books but the preimse has a kinda flash gordon sound to them so I’m liking this idea already. After the awesome Star Trek I’m hoping this will put Sci-fi back on the table in Hollywoood.

Dafoe will play Tars Tarkas a martian who develops an alliance with John. The lead role of John Carter is to be played by Taylor Kitsch, last seen as Gambit in Xmen Origins: Wolverine

It’s more Fantasy Western than Sci-Fi.
