Disney’s New Tomorrowland Trailer Looks Epic!

Disney look like they’ve homework and got it right again on the demographics… I sat down last night with my 5, 11 & 13 year olds and watched the new trailer for the upcoming Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney, and they’re all desperate to see the film… now!

The official plot for the film is as follows: “Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (George Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.

The one thing that struck most of us is how this might link in with Tomorrowland at Disney’s EPCOT Centre – EPCOT itself standing for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Walt Disney created the concept for the park with a vision that (to paraphase) “it would never be finished as new technology would just be continually added”. Speculation is rife, that the Tomorrowland we see in the movie may well be what Walt originally envisioned for EPCOT… you can get a sense of that from Syd Mead’s (Blade Runner) concept art:

We’re also predicting that next year’s top crop of merchandising will probably feature this pin:

The film has a strong cast including Judy Greer, Hugh Laurie, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan Michael Key and Chris Bauer, and is directed by Brad Bird. Tomorrowland is released 22 May 2015 in UK cinemas…
