Official Photo Released: Prince of Persia

Entertainment Weekly in this article was the first to release an official photo from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Based off of the popular video game it is set to be released May 28, 2010 and features actor Jake Gyllenhaal in the leading role.

Now, Gyllenhaal looks pretty good in this photo, but I’m skeptical for two reasons. One, when I think Jake Gyllenhaal I don’t think action star. He could prove me wrong but only time will tell. Two, I am still confused why when casting a prince of PERSIA you would pick a white man. I am sure there are plenty of Arab actors who would have welcomed the role.

What do you guys think? Does the casting work for you?

I think it would be an hot potato to cast an Arab actor as Persians/Iranians are not Arabs and there can be quite a lot of sensitivity about the issue. Mind you looking at the costume historical/ethnological accuracy isn’t going to be a priority.

  2. I’m sure he’ll do ok. I mean Bruce Willis and Will Smith were both comedy guys before Die Hard and Bad Boys
And on the colour thing… well technically he should be a white blonde guy

  3. True that totally makes sense. I was just considering outside people who maybe haven’t played the game? On top of that my skepticism just comes from the casting. I have no doubt that he COULD pull it off, I just hope he does! =)

  4. Oh and I was wrong Arabs are not Persians. Sorry for the ignorance mix up =).
