Ray Harryhausen to bring us “War Eagles”

When it comes to special effects Ray Harryhausen  is one of my hero’s. His films always get a watch whenever they come on in my house (the skeleton battle in  Jason and the Argonauts never gets old).

Harryhausen’s latest project War Eagles, which he’s developing with Spirit Pictures, sounds right up the street of any pulp adventure fans like myself.

I did some digging and it seems the film is based on a book of the same name the premise of which can be summed up by this single sentence I found on IMDB.

A publicly humiliated test pilot and a lost clan of vikings riding giant eagles are America’s only hope against a surprise Nazi attack

I then found the book on Amazon and one the reviews had this to say about the book.

war eagles

This novel had a feel of ‘The Rocketeer’ and ‘Sky Captain’ about it, a kind of alternative 1930’s complete with adventure, Dinosaurs, Giant Eagles, a lost tribe, intrepid heros and evil Nazis…

All of this tells me that if the film lives up to half the potential of the premise I’m going to be a very happy man.
