DVD REVIEW: Gallowwalkers

The Blurb: “A supernatural western following Aman, a mysterious gunman, the son of a nun cursed by God to be haunted by all those who die by his hand. When Aman kills a gang of murderers out of revenge, the crew rises from the dead to hunt him down.

A mysterious gunman, Aman, is the son of a nun who broke her covenant with God to ensure his survival when he was dying as a child. This act brings a curse upon Aman – all those that die by his gun will return. A gang of outlaws kill his betrothed, and exacts revenge. However, in time he is hunted by this gang of now undead former victims, led by the vicious Kansa. In desperation, Aman jailbreaks and then enlists Fabulos, a new young warrior, to fight by his side, in the final showdown.

OMG, this film is just so bad… so bad! Please, please don’t watch this expecting “Blade for Zombies”, because you will be sorely and ruthlessly disappointed. And what is really annoying is that this actually had a lot of potential. The concept is a good one and credit where it’s due the production values are actually good. With a half decent cast (Snipes, Bergin, Howarth) and good location this should have been a slam dunk, right?!? Maybe the kind of film you and few friends can thrown on TV on a late night with a 4-pack of Carling and a packet of Doritos. Unfortunately it is the incomprehensible plot that sucks making it impossible to rescue this turkey. I had to watch it twice to make sure that senility wasn’t kicking in, but no – this film is really that incoherent and very boring!

So it turns out that this film started shooting in October 2006 and whilst filming Wesley Snipes was indicted on tax-dodging charges, with a warrant being issued for his arrest. Production on the film had begun before the Grand Jury returned the indictment and so on Dec. 8th 2006 Snipes voluntarily turned himself in. Pleading not guilty to all charges, he was released on $1 million bail-bond and allowed to return to Africa to finish this movie. I bet he’d wished he’d gone to jail after making this…
