There is a lot to be said for a horror film that revisits the concept of etching magic circles on the floor, the characters cowering inside them as who knows what materialises outside. Sadly, it’s something that many films don’t bother with anymore. A Dark Song is one that thankfully does, and the freshly released trailer below hints at what looks like a fun slice of occult shenanigans.
A Dark Song stars Steve Oram (Sightseers, The World’s End) and Catherine Walker (Leap Year, Dark Touch). The narrative follows a grieving mother who wants to make contact with her dead daughter, and who engages an occultist who might be able to help her do just that. As any horror fan will no doubt be thinking, what could possibly go wrong with that idea?
A Dark Song played at the 60th London Film Festival in October and is due for a cinema release sometime in Spring 2017. You can watch the trailer below, and if you are anything like me, you might find yourself itching to rewatch A Devil Rides Out afterwards.
