Cult BBC Sci-Fi series Blake’s 7 rumoured to be remade for Xbox Live

blakes 7 logoFollowing a report in the Financial Times, it looks like Microsoft are set to fund a remake of the classic and cult BBC Sci-Fi TV series from the 1970’s/198-‘s Blake 7.

Said to be produced by Georgeville TV, the reboot of Blake 7 will be written by Heroes writer Joe Pokaski and GoldenEye director Martin Campbell, and was originally intended to appear on TV channel SyFy but it now seems the 13-episode series will go out on the Xbox. The show’s producer refused to comment, describing the story as “rumours” but noticeably did not deny it.

Blake 7’s current  distributor, Freemantle Media, who had announced earlier this year that a remake of the show would be broadcast on the SyFy channel said that they were not aware of the rumour.

A new Blake 7 series would fit into Microsoft’s new strategy of positioning the new Xbox One console and a complete home entertainment system and providing in house developed TV content for the Xbox Live platform.  Microsoft has already announced that they are developing a live-action TV show based on their popular FPS game Halo to be shown exclusively on the Xbox and produced by  Steven Spielberg.
