GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards breaks Guinness World Record

It seems 2011 is proving to be one hell of a year for gaming. The Golden Joysticks Awards which are being held tomorrow (21st October) have just announced they have smashed their own world record for the most votes cast in a gaming awards.

This year the awards clocked up a massive 2.06 million votes for the games all in the running for a coveted golden joystick in one of the fourteen categories, which are

1. Ultimate Game of the Year
2. Shortlist Magazine One To Watch
3. Best Shooter
4. Metro UK Best Action/Adventure
5. Best RPG [Role-Playing Game]
6. Best MMO [Massively Multiplayer Online game]
7. Best Fighting Game
8. Best Racing Game
9. Best Sports Game
10. Best Strategy Game
11. Best Music-based Game
12. Best Free-to-play Game
13. Best Mobile Game
14. Best Downloadable Game

The 29th annual edition of the awards show will also be attempting to break another world record with Future Publishing’s Justin Towell trying to break the world record lap time for the new, India circuit on F1 2011. If  successful Justin’s lap time will be faster than the actual circuit record.

The awards will be held at the swanky Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel in London. Geek Syndicate and The Next Level will be there throughout the day reporting on the events and exclusives that come out of the show.
