Lovefilm Stopping Game Rental Service – Forgets to Tell Customers UPDATED

Lovefilm-logoSo here I am surfing the net this evening when I come across a headline saying that Lovefilm are stopping there games rental services. Suffice to say I was very surprised as I am a LoveFilm games rental service subscriber, currently have two games with me from them and this was the first that I have heard about this.

Lovefilm has confirmed it will no longer offer a game rental service, effective August 8. The date was confirmed to Eurogamer by a Lovefilm customer support agent. Before you panic like I did if you are a games rental subscriber, the cancellation only effects new LoveFilm subscribers and not existing subscribers. Phew!!

In an email statements LoveFilm said

“In order to give the best possible service that we can, we are looking to focus on our strength, which is providing the best selection of film and TV content for our customers, and making it available whenever and wherever you want it,”

“Lovefilm confirms games rental will no longer be available to new customers signing up to its service in the UK, with effect on the week commencing June 24,”

Lovefilm has also  issued an apology to its customers for not informing them that the company planned to abandon the games sector.

“We’re very sorry if any information about service changes reached you by third party or media reports, rather than coming from us first.

“We strive to communicate directly with our customers before releasing any wider statements concerning your Lovefilm service. On this occasion, clearly, we failed – please accept our apologies for this error.”

Now my concern as a subscriber is will LoveFilm continue to offer new games and games from the upcoming PS4 and Xbox One consoles. Lets hope so.

Lots of confusion about this and I still haven’t received any email from them about this but I believe the service will run as normal for those already on it. Its just new customers or existing LoveFilm customers without the games rental service that will no longer be able to get one.

Like I mentioned above,  my biggest worry is if they will continue to add new games to the service. I’m getting a funny feeling they won’t as the only games they have in their coming soon section when i checked earlier are the follow 3.

Grand Theft Auto V
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Rambo: The Video Game

Normally coming soon has dozens of games on it.
