Microsoft’s ‘Game Room’ targets ‘PlayStation Home’

At CES today Microsoft announced Game Room, a space on Xbox Live where players can create a virtual arcade with games from the classic days of Atari and Intellivision. Xbox Live members can invite friends’ avatars to their Room and challenge them in said games, providing virtual gameplay similar to Sony’s PlayStation Home. Microsoft plans to release a mammoth 1,000 titles for the Game Room over the next three years. Game Room will be released this Spring.

It’s basically a virtual arcade filled with classic arcade games. You can walk your avatar up to arcade machines and start playing. The service will be available on Xbox 360 and PC.

Whether it’ll become the ghost town that “Home” has turned into…only time will tell.
