New Gauntlet-style Ghostbusters game coming in 2011

Atari and Sony have announced plans for a sequel to 2009’s Ghostbusters: The Video Game is in development. Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is set for release in Spring 2011, but this time instead of being a full retail game, it will be released as a downloadable title on PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and Windows PC. Players will again take the role of the same rookie hired in the first game.

The new four-player action game will have you blasting ghosts with your proton pack. According to Game Hunters, you can expect “gigantic bosses that require teamwork and the entirety of the ghostbusting arsenal: the proton stream, plasma inductor and the fermion shock.” You’ll also get to drive the Ecto-4WD. Early screenshots suggest that one player while drive while other players clear the streets by firing off proton streams. The game will have 4 player online and local co-op.

There is one major downside, though. According to the report, none of the actors from the films, such as Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, will appear in the game.

Development is being handled by Wanako Studios, a Chilean game studio who last developed Assault Heroes 2 for Xbox Live Arcade.
