Nintendo Wii U Release Date and Pricing Details Revealed

Following months of rumours and anticpation, Nintendo have finally revealed the release date for thier new WiiU console and they were telling the truth. It will be out globally this year from November.

In two special events held in Japan and New York on the same day, Nintendo have officially announced the release dates for its Wii U consoles and given details of the bundle packs that will be available

The Wii U will come in two console bundles. The first ‘Basic Pack’ features the console with an 8GB hard drive and one white gamepad but no sensor bar for those Wii-mote controllers. The second is a black ‘Premium Pack’ console comes with a 32GB hard drive, one black gamepad, a stand for the console, a charging cradle for the gamepad and a sensor bar.

Both versions of the console can have additional storage upgrade by either SD card or USB memory stick and in true Nintendo style will be backwards compatible with existing Wii titles, controllers and sensor bar

In Japan it s was announced that the Japanese Wii U will be released on the 8th December. The US version will be released on the 18th November and finally the in Europe it will be available on 30th November. Pricing for the US is $299 for the 8GB model and $349 for the 32 model. No pricing has been announced for the UK.

Although no UK prices have been announced, online retailers such as Amazon, and Game have put the Wii U console up for pre-order, with prices starting from £250 for the Basic White console pack, to £350 for the Premium Black console pack with an additional game and a Pro controller. Games are being priced from £44.99 – £49.99 and accessories such as the Pro Controller at £50.

Nintendo will be looking to have a great Black Friday (USA) and Christmas of sales make the cost of both versions of the new console higher than both the Xbox 360 with Kinect and PS3 with Move so that will give it some big competitions.

I’m guessing that Nintendo will be hoping that many of its 80 million plus Wii console owners will upgrade to the Wii U.
