Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About Time Coming This July

Plants-vs-Zombies-2Before there was Angry Birds there was Plant vs Zombies. Arguable the game that kicked off the mobile gaming craze back in May 2009, PopCap has finally announced that Plants vs Zombies 2 with the apt subtitle Its about time  will be release on iOS platforms July 18.Considering the huge popularity of the game first released in May 2009 on mobile devices and then on Facebook,  it is surprising that it has taken four years for a sequel at come out during which time there has been five Angry Birds games since the original Angry Birds was released in December 2009.

Designed from the ground up as a live service, the ever-expanding universe of Plants vs. Zombies 2 continues the epic struggle of plants defending your brains against zombies from your backyard through the vast reaches of time, both past and future. New worlds with new levels, plants, zombies and new ways to play will be released on an ongoing basis. Leveraging the touch interface of Apple’s popular mobile devices, Plants vs. Zombies 2 includes all-new touch-screen power-ups that enable players to “break the fourth wall” and interact with zombies directly, as well as via plant defenses.

Also returning for the sequel is Crazy Dave, the addled neighbour who serves as a guide for players and shopkeeper for special plant upgrades and other tools and weapons. New touch-screen power-ups, plant food that supercharges plants, and novel new game mechanics that both help and hinder players’ efforts to thwart the zombie hordes will enthrall existing fans and new players alike.

Similar to the recently released Cut the Rope: Time Travel game, Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time looks set to also feature some elements of time travelling.

Like with so many recent mobile games like Candy Crush Saga and Real Racing 3, Plants vs. Zombies 2 will be free to download, but will feature optional micro transactions and freemium upgrades to purchase separately.

No confirmation has been given when the game will come to Android or any other mobile platform.
