So the Largest (Virtual) Space Battle in History Just Happened…

imagesEVE Online is the sort of game that I’m pleased exists, even if I didn’t get on with it personally. Its got a wild and untamed feel to it, and there is always something interesting coming out of player interaction there, rather than some sort of pre-set encounter a designer dreamed up. This week, 4000 ships (each controlled by a single pilot) met in a titanic space battle between two rival factions over control of a critical system.

The scale is staggering. Over 2,900 ships were destroyed before the TEST Alliance were driven from the system by CFC in what is by all accounts a decisive victory.
