Tin Man Games have been hard at work since their successful Kickstart campaign to create a digital version of the original Fighting Fantasy gamebook: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain. Whilst the company have successfully created digital versions of the 1980s gamebook series before, this time they are doing something different. They’re turning The Warlock of Firetop Mountain into a digital table-top dungeon crawl, complete with over 100 miniatures which include a number of different heroes for the player to take on the role of.
Each hero character has a different reason for entering the tunnels, rooms and infamous Maze of Zagor to ultimately challenge The Warlock of Firetop Mountain himself. In producing this version, the team have more than quadrupled the word-count (yes, there’s still some reading to be done which keeps the Game-book feeling alive) and created a whole new combat system that should allow for more tactical combat than the simple dice rolls of the original.
The game is set to enter Beta this summer and will appear on Steam on August 26, 2016. The game will also release on iOS and Android platforms later on. I’m really excited about this, as I was – and still am – a fan of the Fighting Fantasy series and love what Tin Man have produced in the past. I helped to kickstart the game and paid the extra 10 AUD to join the test team. Can’t wait to get my mitts on a version to play!
Here’s a couple of new screen shots to give a bit of the flavour of the game. You can also check out the plan from the original Kickstarter campaign.
