A new Nintendo console has been “confirmed” for E3

It has been rumored but now several sources (one of them being Game Informer) have confirmed that Nintendo will be showing off a new console at E3 or maybe even sooner. The console is said to have new HD graphics however we will have to wait to see if they will be able to compete with the Xbox 360 and PS3.  According to the some of these sites Nintendo “is trying to embrace the Western gamer” this means that this will be going off in a completely different direction and not just as much as a HD update for the Wii. Apparently they are announcing the new hardware now in order to get some games in the works for its apparent release in 2012, an anonymous source said, “ Nintendo is doing this one right,” and “It’s not a gimmick like the Wii.”

Although everything seems legit at this point the whole thing is still shrouded in mystery with different sites saying different things, for example when IGN covered this news that said that it was going to be “significantly more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox” and that it would include backwards compatibility so that people can still play their old Wii games on the newer console. This leaves room for speculation as the ability to do this means that the layout of the controller must be similar to that of the older Wii, but then again none of this is fact yet so everything could change by the time E3 comes around. When Nintendo were asked about all this they just replied saying,  “stay tuned.” I guess that it means that were going to have to wait until June 7th – 9th this year before we will be able to know for sure what is really going on behind the doors of Nintendo.
