‘Age of the Geek’ Comes to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

I’m headed to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the first time ever this year and I’m already overwhelmed by the amount of things going on there. As I shifted through the massive fringe events listings magazine, with a cuppa in one hand and a marker pen in the other, I saw a listing for ‘Age of the Geek’ starring Hayden Cohen.

If you’re a geek heading to this year’s festival then the ‘Age of the Geek’ Show might be right up your alley!

The show promises to reveal ‘the dark side of Geekdom’ through spoken word, comedy and music. At the time I circled the show as something potentially to check out (anything with a vague link to sci-fi, fantasy or geekdom in any shapr or form got circled.). Anyway after a little twitter exchange with Hayden I was reminded that this was the same show.

Hayden kindly sent over a press release and a fun youtube video, which after watching it’s pretty much a done deal that I’m going to check out the show.

So here’s his song giving his thoughts on that age old topic that is Star Wars vs Star Trek….enjoy!

FIRST EVER SPOKEN WORD SHOW ON SALE FOR EDFRINGE!

SPOKEN WORD, MUSIC AND COMEDY REVEALS THE DARK SIDE OF GEEKDOM

Dictators have fallen. Empires have been won and lost. Now geeks rule the world. Combining spoken word, music and comedy, Hayden shows how the Geeks have inherited the earth. Staring longingly into the heart of all things Geeky, this is a show that will entertain you through our impending technological doom.

Among the Geeky goodies within the show is a MIDI enabled Stylophone made by Jason Hotchkiss of the Build Brighton Hackspace. This is a one of a kind of instrument merging the musical mastery of Rolf Harris with the aptitude of Hayden’s musical skill.

‘Cohen has a surprisingly good singing voice, used to comedic and genuine merit, and is a talented musician, too…

One of the most commendable parts of the show was his genuine and likeable personality… It was impossible not to warm to him and the subtleties of the performance that made the show so believable… Hayden Cohen is a very convincing geek and his age is now.’

Jessica Marshall McHattie – The Brighton Argus

**************

‘a very clever series of geek-flavoured verse.’
