Apple’s iPad 4 Doubles Up with New 128GB Model

apple-logoIn a surprise statement, Apple announced the release of a new model of iPad. But it wasn’t an iPad 5 or an iPad Mini with Retina display (we wish). Instead the statement offered a pleasant surprise addition to the iPad 4 line –  a 128GB model.

Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Philip Schiller stated: “With more than 120 million iPads sold, it’s clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and every day they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs. With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.”

Up to now Apple’s tablet devices – from iPhone to iPad all had a peak storage capacity of 64GB. Some iPad users must have found even 64GB a bit limiting so it’s quite nice to have a bigger memory option. The downside is that prices for the premium tablet are even more eye-watering. Official prices for the Apple iPad 4 128GB start at the super steep £639 ($799) for the Wifi, and stretch to £739 ($929) for the 4G model.

The iPad 4 128GB will launch in the US on the 5th February and needless to say the worldwide launch won’t trail far behind.

We wonder if this memory boost will soon extend to Apple’s other portable devices. A 128GB iPod touch/iPhone would be lovely for some of us with a massive music collection.
