AUTUMN OF INDIE: ComiXology Launch Free Submission Portal for Self-Publishers

Some great news for you indie comic creators out there from digital comic giant ComiXology.

Most of us fans of digital comics know that ComiXology controls a huge slice of the digital comic market and that for some time now the smaller indie publishers have wanted a slice of the ComiXology cake. Now the team at ComiXology have finally stepped into the self- publishing spotlight by launching  a free submission portal which it has named ‘ComiXology Submit’. Although the submission portal will be invite-only/private beta to begin with I’m guessing this is just a stepping stone to it becoming available to all. Interested self-publishers will be able to submit their work which, once it has been approved by ComiXology, will be released using ComiXology’s Guided View technology and all of this will not cost a penny, according to the press release. Once the comic goes on sale the creator and ComiXology will split the profits straight down the middle.

“When we started comiXology it was with a handful of comics from deals done directly with creators and very small publishers,” said co-founder and CEO David Steinberger. “We are happy today, with the announcement of comiXology Submit, that we now have a turnkey system to service this incredibly vital part of the marketplace. ComiXology Submit, helps keep the promise to our customers of having the best and most diverse comic books and graphic novels available worldwide.”

As someone who also self publishes on the side I think this is a great idea and I know I’ll be following the development of this portal with great interest. What do the rest of you indie creators out their think about this news? Do you think it’s a step in the right direction?

Those interested in being contacted when ComiXology Submit becomes open to the public can enter their contact information on the front page of submit.comixology.com.
