Bad Ideas 101: Man gets Arrested for Trying to Split Atoms at Home

So what do you when you want to experiment with splitting the atom but have no lab  or volcano hideout to practice in? easy… you just do it at home. I mean where’s the harm?

Obviously the Swedish police saw a great deal of harm in what 31 year old Richard Handle was up as they arrested him as soon as they found out what he was up to.

The line from his statement that kills me is this one…

“I have always been interested in physics and chemistry,” Handle said, adding he just wanted to “see if it’s possible to split atoms at home.”

Yeah mate I’m sure a young Dr No thought the same way and look what happened to him. To all of you kids out there thinking of playing with atoms just remember metal kung fu grip hands are no fun just ask Dr No.

Seriously if he knows anything about the mechanics and theory of splitting the atom then I’m guessing Handle is a smart fella. I’m guessing however that does not imply common sense is one of his better traits because common sense should tell him that sitting at home trying out some DIY fission experiments is A) going to get noticed and B) get you banged up or worse you incinerate half your neighborhood and mutate the other half into flesh hungry zombies. Ok maybe I went too far…he may only get a fine but as far as the Zombies go I know I’m dead on with that one I’ve read books you know.
