Behind The Sofa: Chairty Book Signing at Forbidden Planet

Behind The SofaBehind the Sofa is a charity book, compiled by Steve Berry. The book contains Doctor Who related memories of various celebrities – both those who have been involved with the show and those who are just fans. Originally, the book was crowd funded and I’m proud to say I have a copy from the original run.

100 % of the royalties from the book go towards Alzheimers Research UK – a worthy charity. An expanded edition is now available and Forbidden Planet are hosting a signing of the book in their flagship store in London. The signing is on 7 November from 18:00 to 19:00. Full details are presented after the break, but even if you can’t make it to the signing, pick up a copy (for example from amazon) as it’s a really nice read and you’ll be doing something worthwhile too.

 Diary Date: Thursday 7th November 6 – 7pm

Behind The Sofa is a collection of over 100 celebrity memories of Doctor Who, and we’re delighted to be playing host to some of its contributors. Signing, at the London Megastore on Thursday 7th November from 6pm, will be: –

  • Ben Aaronovitch
  • Sophie Aldred
  • Steve Berry
  • Richard Herring
  • Robin Ince
  • Katy Manning
  • Al Murray

A life-long Who fan, Steve Berry decided to do something a little different to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research. He began to interview celebrities, writers, actors asking for their earliest memories of the show that sent us cowering behind the sofa. Now he presents the fruits of his four years of labour – a beautiful, touching book containing short articles and touching memories of one of the most successful TV shows ever. 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of DOCTOR WHO – this is the perfect way to enjoy those 50 years!

This revised and expanded edition includes over 30 new entries from people such as comedians Al Murray, Stephen Merchant, and Bill Oddie; actors Lynda Bellingham, Nicholas Parsons, and Rhys Thomas; writers Neil Gaiman, Jenny Colgan, Jonathan Ross and Charlie Brooker and politicians Louise Mensch and Tom Harris. In addition, there is input from a number of the writers, actors and production staff who were involved in creating the show!

This is a great opportunity to get some signatures. Why not challenge yourself to get one from every contributor to the book? 🙂
