Behind the Scenes – the Sets of Spartacus: War of the Damned

In Spartacus: War of the Damned, Capua has been left far behind. As Spartacus and his army move south, the audience will see a whole new world full of rich villas, mountain passes and ports teeming with ships.

Go behind the scenes with the cast and crew of War of the Damned as they talk about creating the backdrop for Starz’s hit show.

Given the general in-your-face nature of the show, the scenery may tend to fall out of the spotlight. In the show’s final season, however, it sounds as though we’ll have a lot more to look at.

Spartacus and his allies have descended upon a town of 100K+ residents. Check out the video below to hear a bit about fitting all of that onto a set, along with the challenges of blending the physical sets in with the green screen visual effects. Commentators include creator Steven DeKnight and stars Liam McIntyre (Spartacus), Dustin Clare (Gannicus) and Dan Feuerriegel (Agron).

Spartacus: War of the Damned is currently in production in New Zealand and premieres on Starz in January, 2013.
