Beyond the Castle – Pt 3: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Merlin

If you’ve been keeping up, we spoke with some of the crew from BBC’s Merlin about costumes, creating battle scenes (it’s not what you think or maybe it is!) and dragon’s eggs but something wicked (fun) this way comes: interviews with the cast!

We spent the majority of the time talking with various members of Merlin’s ensemble cast as they came in from either filming, or other on-set activities. First up are the “brotherly” team of Rupert Young who plays Sir Leon and Eoin Macken who portrays Sir Gwaine. Check it out behind the cut:

I have to say that we couldn’t stop laughing the majority of the time as these guys are really fun to chat with. Additionally, we weren’t able to┬ácapture some interviews on video though, so we apologize for that. But the fact almost every cast member was in attendance is quite the feat so major thanks to the publicity team.

We’ll be bringing you more interviews in the lead up to the premiere so keep your eyes peeled Merlin fans!

Hi, were you able to film Bradley James’ interview?

    • Sharlene Mousfar /

Hi there – no unfortunately. Everyone was only able to get them together on audio for maybe 10 minutes since they came from a break in filming that day. I was bummed about it for sure! Sorry for the late reply – this one got lost in the shuffle!

  2. Oh Bless them. They are so fun to watch and listen to.

Leon won my heart when he was the first to step into the circle when Arthur took on the dragon. And I really wish they had played up the Gwen/Leon backstory more as their little jaunt into the woods was hilarious. Of course I love the Gwaine character because he’s just too much fun. Really, every one of those knight characters is a peach.

Thanks for getting these interviews.Looking forward to reading the rest.

  3. Great interview! It’s always funny and comfy hear them.
