British Academy Shake Up Format For Games Awards

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) have announced today that the British Academy Games Awards will take place on 12th March 2014 and will be held at a brand new and very swanky looking venue, Tobacco Dock London. Dara O’Briain has also been confirmed as the host for the sixth year running. BAFTA are also looking to shake things up a bit this year…

BAFTA are mixing things up for the award ceremony next year by allowing a key gaming audience to attend, without whom the industry wouldn’t exist – the general public. That’s right, you and I could be in the audience. This will be the first time in the awards history that the ceremony will be open to the public.

Harvey Elliott, Chairman of BAFTA’S Games Committee had this to say:

“The BAFTA Games Awards have consistently celebrated the amazing achievements of the creative teams within games.  The new venue of Tobacco Dock and the welcome addition of public access to the event will enable us to showcase the talent and excellence of our industry to a whole new passionate gamer audience.”

Dara O’Briain also said:

“I am delighted to return for my 6th year as host of the BAFTA Games Awards.  This year the awards move into a new venue and a new level, to celebrate an industry which has quietly taken its place as the largest entertainment industry in the world. It’s a pleasure then, once a year, to loudly sing the praises of the talented teams, many of them UK-based, who bring such excitement, story and spectacle to our phones, our computers and into our homes. I’d tell you more, but frankly, these zombies aren’t going to kill themselves.”

At present it is unknown how tickets to this exclusive event will be made available to the public but rest assured, as soon as GS find out we will let you know.
