Change of Name for Universal’s ‘Dracula’ Reboot

dracula_luke_evans_photoUniversal’s new Dracula reboot previously called Dracula Zero Year, has changed it’s name to simply Dracula.

Not only has it had a change in name, they have also got their leading man. Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans, The Three Musketeers, Immortals & Fast and the Furious 6 has been named to play Dracula. This will be the first film where Evans is playing the starring role.

The script was been written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, and marks the film debut of director Gary Shore, whose only previous work has been on commercials. This new version is a period piece and tells the story of:

A young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.

The project has just been green-lit and shooting is due to start later this year. Lets hope for a fresh take on a rather worn story.

  1. Sounds cool. I don’t recognize the actor… oh yeah, he was one of the “gods” in “The Immortals,” wasn’t he?
