Cobie Smulders May Appear in S.H.I.E.L.D TV Series

marvel___the_avengers_shield_logo-t2Cobie Smulders has hinted that she may appear in the ABC S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series that will spin out of last year’s Avengers movie. Meanwhile filming of the pilot episode has apparently begun.

In a recent interview with, Cobie – who was talking about her forthcoming work on the 2014 Captain America sequel – said about her chances of popping up as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill on the small screen: “The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it. And I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.” She also spoke of her love of the role: “I will do Maria Hill until they fire me and hire someone else to do it.”

Cobie Smulders was last seen in last summer’s Marvel Studios blockbuster ‘Avengers Assemble‘ (‘The Avengers‘ outside the UK) alongside Samuel L. Jackson (S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury), Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), as well as the mega-superheroes that came together to form the Avengers Initiative. Her role in the show may involve a few cameos to help tie the show into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Currently Joss Whedon is putting together the show’s pilot for ABC, of which shooting has apparently already begun with an expected air date of fall 2013. A full-series pickup hasn’t officially happened yet but ABC has committed to producing the pilot. Recently an official Twitter feed has started giving news of work on the forthcoming TV show (albeit mostly retweets so far).

The S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot will star Clark Gregg (reprising his role as seemingly not-so-deceased Agent Phil Coulson), alongside new cast members Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker and Chloe Bennet. The events of the show will apparently take place after those of the Avengers movie.
