COMICS REVIEW: Judge Anderson: PSI Files Volume 02

Having not read a lot of Judge Anderson I was really looking forward to reading some of her case files from the various outlets of 2000AD. I always found myself enjoying Anderson more than Dredd for some reason and this was an opportunity to see why.

Out now HERE

Writers: Alan Grant, John Wagner

Artists: Arthur Ranson, David Roach, Siku, Kev Walker, Mark Wilkinson, Steve Sampson, Tony Luke, Charles Gillespie, Xuasus, Ian Gibson, Enric Romero, Mike Collins

This volume covers Cassandra Anderson’s journey to discover who she is and it will take her to the remotest part of Earth and right out to farthest spot in the Galaxy. The stories range from godlike intervention to short tales involving a spirit of a dead lover some chickens and a house party.

The cases all happen after Anderson has lost her best friend which has left her reeling with loss and uncertainty as a Judge. Soon she is ordered to work with a Russian PSI judge to discover why some murders are occurring and all around the world images and apparitions are appearing that are causing panic in the streets.  This is the well-known Shambala storyline that sets Anderson on an adventure that will change her forever.

The rest of the volume covers stories involving mutant vampire that delivers some scares and then a tale right out of the papers with the Judges beating on civilian Rodney Ding. Yep not a coincidence! After that Anderson takes out some young children training to be PSI Judges out for some Halloween fun where they have to grow up pretty quickly.  We also get trips to Mars, some intergalactic wrestling, and even a body swap with a star ships AI mind.

This whole collection shows how versatile 2000AD were with the creations. Each story brings something new either humour or art or even Anderson herself who changes appearance based on how the artists interpreted her.

So if you are a fan of Judge Anderson buy this now and if you want to have a decent read then pick this up as I have now found a long-lost love with this volume that reminded me why I always liked Anderson.
