Countdown to The Northants International Comic Expo – Day 1

So with nine days to go to the newest convention the block The Northampton International Comic Expo I figured it was a good time as any for a GS convention countdown.

I admit that I’m slightly bias about this convention as it’s on my home turf of Northampton and it’s great for me to not have to travel to the four corners of the earth for my comic con fix. Ok Leeds,Bristol, Cardiff and London may not  be the ends of the earth exactly but you get where I’m coming from. Once again with all these new conventions popping up alongside the current ones it can only help to further that lofty goal of a ‘Con on everyone’s doorstep’.

The Northants International Comic Expo promises us a whole host of big names from the world of comics but also a rare appearance from Alan ‘Yes he does live Northampton I’ve seen him’ Moore. As well as all the guests there will be signings, workshops, competitions, panels, original art galleries and auctions.

What I think is still a fantastic idea is the  donation program being run at the event on behalf of Northamptonshire Libraries which Alan and N.I.C.E are both supporting. How it works is you pop along to the Northants Library table and donate your unwanted graphic novels and trade paperbacks which will go towards bolstering the libraries graphic novel section.  So you donate a graphic novel/trade paperback and you gain entry Alan’s panels, it’s as simple as that!  Diamond Comics have also announced that they will match every comic donated. This is one of those ideas that I hope takes off as I know  have quite a few graphic novels laying about that I’m probably not going to read again and would like to see them go tot a good home.

For those of you who haven’t bought a ticket yet the organisers have said that there are still tickets available on the website but now you can also buy your tickets on the door and at the Close Encounters comic shops in Northampton and Bedford. Also as a little ticket buying incentive the organisers are offering this deal.

All tickets sold up until 15th September 2012 will be entered in to a prize draw for 5 headshots from attending artists. The first 5 drawn will get 5 sketches each!

For now I’ll leave you with a list of some of the guests who will be attending and join us for another countdown tomorrow.
