DC Despatches: Flash’s Costume, Black Canary’s Origin & Gotham’s City

11 DCWhether it’s Warner Bros, The CW or the DC stable themselves, here are the world-wide mutterings!

Grant Gustin teases on The Flash role and a “traditional Flash costume” AND Sarah Lance has a big claim to be the “vengeful” Black Canary, in Arrow Season 2

Fox will air Gotham, featuring Batman’s Commissioner Gordon, Batman’s Villains… but no Batman!

Glee star Grant Gustin has been speaking up about us forthcoming turn as Barry Allen – aka The Flash – in Arrow Season 2. “We’re going to see Barry Allen first in two episodes and then he’ll come back later as The Flash,” Gustin said, “I’m a little fanboy – I’m so excited to be a part of the show.” “I got an audition and I was really excited and a little skeptical at first, because I’m a comic book fan,” he said. “I know the character and know I’m a little young.” The actor added that despite the more real-world interpretation of DC Comics characters in Arrow to date, Allen will be appearing “in a pretty traditional Flash costume.”

The true identity of Black Canary in  has been the subject of much internet conjecture ever since it was revealed that slew of new characters Arrow Season 2 would also see the return of Sarah Lance, Laurel (Katie Cassidy)’s younger sister, last seen drowning in the shipwreck that marooned Oliver Queen. Showrunner Andrew Kreisberg said, “She’s a new player in town. A vigilante who avenges wronged women. “[She] seems to have a fixation on the Arrow and our team is trying to figure out why.” In creating an origin story for an “avenging wronged woman” go, being left for dead at sea by a two-timer who was dating your sister would suggest that Sarah Lance is a great candidate. Rest assured that Arrow season 2 will prolong the mystery…

It’s been confirmed that Gotham, widely believed to be based in the world of the Gotham Central comic-book, and follows the origins of Commissioner James Gordon and many of The Batman villains – will be broadcast by Fox, following a network bidding war. The show comes from The MentalistRome creator Bruno Haller and according to reports, in Gotham, Gordon is still a detective with the Gotham City Police Department and has yet to meet Batman, who will not be part of the series. With such a dramatically different timeline, and cross-over with Arrow or the upcoming The Flash, is highly unlikely.
