DC Dispatches: Arrow, The Flash, Wonder Woman & Gotham

Whether it’s Warner Bros, The CW or the DC stable themselves, here are the world-wide mutterings!

This week: Much Ado About Comic-Con! Arrow gets a Gooner, Gotham splits & goes Strange, The Flash gets Plastique… and finally, Wonder Woman (oh yeah, and Batfleck)!

Batman vs Superman: to all those who said she’d never look the part, go and find something very sour to chew on:

We also got treated to a gritty shot of Batfleck, and his new out-fit…

The Flash: Another DC character is to appear in new series, The Flash. Sgt. Bette Sans Souci, the military bomb disposal expert who becomes Plastique when she gains the super-ability to turn anything she touches into a bomb is the latest super-power to join the roster. In the comics, Plastique was more of a villain, but there are reports that suggest that Plastique may be an ally of Barry Allen’s in The Flash. Plastique is a natural choice for The Flash following the news that her on-off nemesis/lover Captain Atom is also due to appear in the Arrow spin-off series.

Arrow: Look who’s finally joining the team! Roy Harper evolves… but not into the Red Arrow. In keeping with Arrow‘s motif of not using traditional hero names, Harper is… Arsenal. Funny – because he always struck me as a Spurs fan!?

There’s also a new trailer out for season three, which introduces RA’S AL GHUL!!! :

Gotham: Fox’s pre-Batman saga Gotham continues to add weight (& cast members) to its expanding universe – this time a real pair of heavy-weights: executive producer Bruno Heller has said that Harvey “Two-Face” Dent and Hugo Strange will soon be appearing on the show. Strange, who is known for making monster men, either psychologically or through chemical means, and also learned Batman’s secret identity, becoming obsessed with him. “Hugo Strange is going to pop up because we’re going to start dealing with how Arkham was created and why Arkham was created in the way that it was so, yeah, absolutely. It’s a Season One thing because in our telling of it the way Arkham was created and the why and how is one of the causes of the particular criminal climate in Gotham that allowed Batman to happen. The revolving door of Arkham is both a brilliant narrative device because it allows you to — you don’t have to kill people off, you can just put them in cold storage — but if you’re telling the story from the start you kind of have to explain, ‘What the f***? Why don’t you make that place a place people don’t escape from?’ We’re going to explain why it is the way it is and Hugo Strange is a big part of that.” Heller also said Harvey Dent will be a character on the show, but don’t expect him to be the same age as young Bruce Wayne’s. “We’re playing Harvey Dent slightly older. He’s more Gordon’s age in this telling. One of the things to avoid in order not to tell a high school story – which would be great, but it’s a different show on a different network at a different time that I would not be a part of. But he will go back to school and villains will be part of that world.”
