Whether it’s Warner Bros, The CW or the DC stable themselves, here are the world-wide mutterings!
This week: more spin-offs from Arrow, Gotham has a Riddler, more castings at Batman vs Superman, and new clips from Son of Batman!
Arrow: The CW’s dark take on DC’s Green Arrow continues to be THE best show on TV in the SilverFox cave, so it comes as no surprise that following the production sign-off of The Flash, it looks like The CW are going to expand that even further with Helena Bertinelli, aka The Huntress. A core member of the Birds Of Prey team and of the extended Batman family, Huntress was played in Arrow Jessica De Gouw, and executive producer Marc Guggenheim has revealed he’d wants to give her her own showcase: “As far as what becomes a series, what doesn’t become a series, one thing I’ve talked to DC Comics about is, I’d love to do a Huntress series,” Guggenheim said. “I mentioned this to Jessica – where we cover the year that she spent between episodes 117 and 217, from her perspective, travelling the world and hunting for her father. You never know, all things are possible, as long as we’ve got Jessica’s willing participation.” Huntress is definitely one of the strongest non-powered independent DC characters, her hard-edged war on the Mafia frequently bringing her head-to-head with The Batman. A transition to TV would be very easy: like Arrow it’s format would be Dark Knight-style themes and villains without imposing on the DC Cinematic Universe – and probably still be in sync with Fox’s upcoming Gotham TV show. Plus, with a Wonder Woman TV show now firmly off the cards – we desperately need a female-led superhero show… personally I could watch Black Canary 24/7!
Gotham: Cory Michael Smith has been added to the cast of Fox’s pre-Batman TV show Gotham. Smith will be playing Edward Nigma, the man who eventually becomes The Riddler – most recently played by madcap Jim Carrey in 1995′s God-awful Batman Forever. In recent comic lore, The Riddler has been given a make-over from the Carrey / Frank Gorshin gimmicky villain, to working as an informant and problem solver for mob boss Carmine Falcone, and even aiding Batman – more recently he was reformed almost completely.

Batman vs. Superman: Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman Vs Superman has added three new cast members to its ever-expanding line-up, including two stars of recent Marvel movies: The Wolverine‘s Tao Okamoto, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and 300: Rise Of An Empire‘s Callan Mulvey and Oscar veteran Holly Hunter (The Incredibles, O Brother Where Art Thou?) are all confirmed for the Man of Steel sequel. “She has immense talent and is always captivating on-screen,” said Synder of Hunter. “I had an opportunity to meet her a while back and knew instantly that I had to work with her, so as we began writing the script I made sure to create a role specifically for her. I just had the good fortune to work with Callan on 300: Rise Of An Empire and was very impressed with his incredible talent. He’s a fantastic actor and I’m looking forward to having the chance to work with him again. And, quite simply, Tao is a striking presence whose beauty is aptly rivalled by her amazing abilities as an actress. I’m really excited to have her joining us on this adventure.”
