DC Dispatches: Gotham, Batman vs Superman, The Atom & Supergirl

Whether it’s Warner Bros, The CW or the DC stable themselves, here are the world-wide mutterings!

This week: An Ogre is coming to Gotham, behind the scenes of Bats vs Supes with Zack, a first look at the Atom and casting & more for Supergirl!

Supergirl: With hits in GothamArrow and The Flash under their belt, and with a Vixen web series soon to follow, it’s no surprise that more DC-based series are being pipelined, the latest being Supergirl, and Melissa Benoist is the actress who will be playing Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, yet another Glee alumni (The Flash being Grant Gustin), so it’ll be interesting to see if this formula will win again! CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said “As you can tell from the strength of the female characters we have on television… it’s a real passion of ours. We heard the pitch to Supergirl, and we realised that she embodied so many of the qualities and the characteristics of classic female heroines on this network, and we think that it is a story and a coming of age opportunity for us. We also just fell in love with the pitch. We think she’s a great character, and I love the superhero genre.” Another announcement was that actor Mehcad Brooks will be the new Jimmy Olsen. Olsen, of course, is better known for being a predominately Superman character, the Daily Planet’s photographer and close friend of both the Man of Steel and Lois Lane. And the inclusion of Olsen does leave wide open the possibilities of who else we might see in Supergirl’s universe

Gotham: Milo Ventimiglia is to guest star in a key story arc across the current season of Gotham. Appearing in episode 19, he will play Jason Lennon, aka the Ogre, a handsome, wealthy and seductive serial killer who preyed on Gotham’s young women for nearly a decade, luring them into his web and testing them with a series of trials as he searches for his perfect mate. When these victims fail to live up to this impossible standard, Lennon coldly disposes of them. “His obsessions, combined with Gordon’s determination to bring him down, send both Gordon and Lennon — and those around them — on a course toward tragedy.” Personally it’ll be great to see another villain that promises to bring as much presence to the show as Cobblepot’s Penguin already does…

Batman Vs. Superman: Zack teases us with a behind the scenes view of his decaying Gotham

Arrow: well, Marvel may well have given us an enticing first trailer for Ant-Man, but DC, who currently rule the TV air-waves, have just dropped the first shot of Brandon Routh’s Atom into our lap

And a quick catch up on trailers…
