DC Dispatches: SHAZAM, Arrow, Gotham & The Flash

Whether it’s Warner Bros, The CW or the DC stable themselves, here are the world-wide mutterings!

This week: Arrow cast an Australian as Arabic Ra’s Al Ghul, The Rock confirms his DC movie role and great casting news at The Flash!

Arrow: Stephen Amell broke the news on Twitter that Arrow have cast an Aussie ex-rugby player as Middle-Eastern villain, Ra’s Al Ghul. Yep, so after Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan Noonien Singh, and previously Irishman Liam Neeson as Ra’s Al Ghul, TV couldn’t find anyone more in-keeping with the character’s comic book roots, so they had to cast an Australian. Seriously guys… really disappointed, The CW!

I look forward to Christopher Walken being cast as Gandhi, and Johnny Vegas as Martin Luther King in their respective upcoming biopics…

Anyway, that aside, there are a couple of new trailers / featurettes out in anticipation of the new season:

And in more appropriate casting, although Sin City‘s Devon Aoki has been forced to pull out of the role of Tatsu Yamashiro, aka Katana, in Arrow Season 3, the good news for The CW, is that they’ve substituted her with The Wolverine‘s Rila Fukushima. Fukushima definitely had her breakout moment in that movie (in the same vein as Aoki had in Sin City), and she demonstrated her physical presence with her fighting skills, and not a comedic capability.

And Amy Gumenick, will play Carrie Cutter aka Cupid, a super-villain with a fatal obsession with the Arrow – exec producer Andrew Kreisberg said “I always loved the idea of Green Arrow having a crazed fan. When I was writing the comic-book, my big goal was to create a villain who would last. Cupid has since appeared in the DC Nation shorts on Cartoon Network, and to have her fight our TV Arrow is so much more than I ever could have hoped for the character.”

… an Australian… really guys!?! Really??? (Don’t even get me started on how Australia treats Middle Eastern refugees!)

Gotham: also has a new trailer out:

The Flash: There’s a new trailer for The Flash:

Now there clearly is a genius in the casting dept at The Flash (well, compared to Arrow anyway). After the welcome new that Clancy “The Kurgan” Brown was joining the ranks, and Wentworth Miller was on-board as Captain Cold, we now learn that fellow Prison Break star Dominic Purcell (John Doe, Blade 3) is joining his on-screen brother in The CW’s TV show, on Episode 4 of the show – never before has such red-hot news just been so cool!!

Other casting news has seen Greg Finley billed as Tony Woodward, or Girder: in the comics, Woodward was a construction worker who is thrown into a vault of molten metal – however some of the metal is from a STAR Labs experiments, and he becomes appropriately super-powered. In the show, however, Girder will be “born” out of an explosion at STAR Labs, and Woodward will have the ability to transform his skin into living metal. An added bonus is that this version of Woodward also bullied Barry Allen when they were children.

SHAZAM: And The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) has finally broken his silence on his SHAZAM movie role:
