DC Dispatches: Suicide Squad, The Flash, Aquaman & Gotham

Whether it’s Warner Bros, The CW or the DC stable themselves, here are the world-wide mutterings!

This week: Suicide Squad’s villain announced, The Flash has a Firestorm, Gotham see’s a shrink and Conan talks all things fishy!

Suicide Squad: Warner Bros’ anticipated ‘Dirty Half-Dozen’ DC movie, Suicide Squad, has signed Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg. Eisenberg will star as Superman’s nemesis Lex Luthor, so there’s a strong likelihood that he’ll be some kind of over-arching enemy for DC’s big screen anti-heroes, or more likely he’ll just be cameo-ing to give the film some gravitas & pedigree… Sufficed to say, with Marvel/Sony releasing Sinister Six, Deadpool and Venom movies, it looks like DC wants to fight fire with fire!

The Flash: we get a first look at Firestorm, played by Robbie Amell, Stephen “Arrow” Amell’s cousin in real life:

Gotham: There’s a gazillion clips on the internet, but I particularly like this one:

Pertwee really has been a brilliant choice to play a younger version of Michael Caine’s Alfred, and he really sells it in his eyes that there is someone that The Goat can take Bruce from…

The show has also signed Morena Baccarin (Firefly, Homeland) to play Batman cannon character, Dr Leslie Thompkins. Thompkins played a crucial role in the life of young Bruce Wayne after his parents’ death, indeed she’s one of the very few people to know he’s The Batman. A gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Thomas and Martha, also worked at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s Home for the Criminally Insane.

The good news if you’re enjoying the show, is that Fox have extended the initial 16 episode run to a full season order of 22.

Aquaman: Jason Momoa has broken his silence the breaking the mould casting of a non-European / non-white actor as the Lord of the Deep, and his Hawaii-born credentials to take on the role “The greatest thing for me is that Polynesians, our gods, Kahoali, Maui, all these water gods, so it’s really cool and a honor to be playing a [water] character. And there’s not too many brown superheroes, so I’m really looking forward to representing the Polynesians, the natives. It’s cool be a part of DC’s universe. I’m really excited to be with Warner Bros., and hopefully everyone likes it. And Zack Snyder’s a genius, so I’m really excited to be hanging out with him. Expanding on his own solo film, he said, “I know the Justice League will come [before the Aquaman solo movie]. That’s really what we’re going to focus on. I’m not sure if it will be [set] prior to Justice League or post. I don’t know too much about it. It will probably be where he came from. It will probably be his whole origin story I would think…I mean I don’t even want to get quoted on this shit.” Oops… too late, Jas!
