Review it:
Want the short review? Speed Racers evil twin.
Yeah, this movie is basically and unashamedly a 90 minute video game. Characters are introduced in the exact same visual way they are in Need for Speed : Most Wanted and during the race drivers have to drive over power ups in the road to get weapons and defensive “special moves”. There is a marginal plot, but who cares? Its all about the races which take up the majority of the film and are brutal and fun. All the cast do their jobs competently and Ian McShane is particularly enjoyable as a jaded inmate with all the best one liners. There are at least three or four “HOW COOL WAS THAT?” moments as well as lots of over the top, Tom and Jerry style violence.
The fact the whole race is shown to be the equivalent of a televised pay per view wrestling event allows for some race commentary and graphics as if we were watching it live, and also gives them an excuse to work some women into the movie. When a character questions why hot female prisoners in crop tops are bused in to be navigators for each race car he is told
“It’s all about ratings. Fast cars, pretty women…”

You already know if you are going to like this movie. Just watch the trailer. If you think “Thats stupid” then you’ll doubtless think the whole film is. If you think “That looks like fun” then you’ll be right and wont be disapponted by the movie as a whole.

Stars – 4
Dry Slaps – 2
1 slap because the movie seems to set you up for a further final act, then doesnt deliver
1 slap because the hot co-pilot kept her top on for the whole movie which is unfair when compaired to the amount of shirt-offage Jason Statham was doing, much to my wifes delight.
