This post contains minor plot-spoilers about the forthcoming series of BBC television’s series, Doctor Who. Please read with this warning in mind.
In a press release sent to us today, the BBC have revealed some more information about a two part story coming up in this year’s series of Doctor Who. In what I’m sure is going to be a very popular move, fan-favourite UNIT scientist Osgood (played by Ingrid Oliver in The Day of the Doctor and last year’s two-part finale Dark Water and Death in Heaven) will return to our screens once more.
Previously, show-runner and head writer, Steven Moffat confirmed that the character was definitely killed by Missy in her last appearance. But as we know, Doctor Who is a show about time travel and what’s to stop the Time Lord meeting Osgood before she dies?
Here’s what The Moff had to say:
“Osgood is back, fresh from her recent murder at the end of last series. We recently confirmed that Osgood was definitely dead and not returning – but in a show about time travel, anything can happen. The brilliant Ingrid Oliver is back in action. This time though, can the Doctor trust his number one fan?”
As followers of the series will be aware, in Osgood’s first appearance Oliver played both Osgood and a Zygon duplicate and we were left unsure as to the fate of both characters. Could it be the Zygon who perished? Or is this before Death in Heaven? Or after and the forth-coming Osgood is the Zygon?
The two part story will feature the return of the doppleganger aliens and was written by Peter Harness, who was responsible for last year’s divisive Kill The Moon. Will this story be a more resounding success?
Time will tell.
It always does.
